Tracy Justason was very excited when she captured this lovely photo of a rainbow Sunday evening in Pennfield NB. If you look closely you'll see a double rainbow. The first and brighter rainbow is called the primary rainbow; the second and more faint rainbow is called the secondary rainbow. The secondary bow becomes visible when refracted light does not escape the raindrop after being reflected the first time. A double rainbow is considered a symbol of transformation and is a sign of good fortune. Fingers crossed! Thank you for sharing Tracy.

Can you say gorgeous? Ronald O’Toole sent this ‘Sunrise at the Castle’ photo he took on Sept. 17 at Logy Bay, N.L. The sun’s rays look like the petals of a flower as it rises out of the Atlantic Ocean. Logy Bay is located near Torbay and is about 10 minutes from downtown St. John’s.

Judy Doyle sent this photo of deer visiting her property on Cape Breton’s Mira River on Monday morning. She said deer are frequent visitors to the area and yesterday she counted as many as seven walking along the river near her home. The deer silhouetted against the morning sun are a beautiful sight.

When hurricane Larry made landfall on the west side of the Avalon on Sept. 11, many things were blown around. Once the storm cleared, Don Simms found this lovely butterfly resting on a sedum in his yard in Mount Pearl, N.L. I wasn't sure what kind of butterfly it was, so I looked it up. Here's what I found. This beauty is a Vanessa Atalanta or red admiral: a medium-sized butterfly with black wings, reddish bands, and white spots.
