CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Basketball players Jane McLaughlin and Milorad Sedlarevic are the UPEI Panther Subway athletes of the week.
McLaughlin, a fifth-year nursing student from Fortune, helped the Panthers sweep their final two homes games of the regular season against Acadia. It was the first time in 30 years UPEI has gone undefeated at home in women’s basketball.
McLaughlin had 17 points and 10 rebounds Friday and five points and four rebounds on Saturday’s senior day.
“Jane had a great weekend for us, specifically helping pull us out of a tough stretch on Friday night with her shooting,” said coach Matt Gamblin. “In the bigger sense, Jane has had a great season and an exemplary career with the Panthers.”
Sedlarevic, a fifth-year business student from Jesenice, Slovenia, helped the Panthers win their final home game of the regular season.
He scored 25 points, including going 6-for-7 from beyond the three-point line, and hauled in a season-high eight rebounds in the Panthers 91-85 victory.
“On his final night as a Panther at home . . . Mickey pulls off his best performance of the season in a must-win game against Acadia to keep the Panthers playoff hopes alive,” said coach Darrell Glenn. “Mickey is very deserving of high praise. He has an unbelievable work ethic and leads by example in that regard every day at practice.”
Sedlarevic had 17 points in Friday’s 90-78 loss to Acadia.
