BOUCHERVILLE, Que. – Noah Dobson of Summerside has been named to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team for the 2018 CIBC Canada/Russia Series.
Dobson, captain of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, was one of eight defencemen selected for the roster that will face the Russia team in Sherbrooke, Que., on Nov. 13 and Drummondville, Que., on Nov. 15.
The son of Andrew and Jenny Dobson, who was selected 12th overall in the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the New York Islanders, has recorded six points, including three goals, in seven regular-season games in his third season with the Titan.
The Charlottetown Islanders are also well represented. Islanders head coach Jim Hulton will hold the same position with Team QMJHL while goaltender Matthew Welsh and defenceman and team captain Pierre-Olivier Joseph have also been selected.
Joseph, 19, is in his fourth year with the Islanders, and has four points, including one goal, in eight contests this season. The Arizona Coyotes drafted Joseph in the first round, 23rd overall, in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
Welsh, 19, is also in his fourth season with the Islanders and has a 3.17 goals-against average and .899 save percentage in nine contests during the 2018-19 campaign.
Hulton returns to the Under-20 Program of Excellence for the first time in over a decade. He previously won a silver medal in 2004 and a gold medal in 2005 as an assistant coach with Team Canada’s under-20 team.
Hulton is in his fourth season behind the Islanders, and he was an assistant coach under Dominique Ducharme for last year’s Canada Russia Series.
The Russian team will also play two games against teams from the Ontario Hockey League and Western Hockey League.
