SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Summerside Capitals have completed play at the 2019 Quebec international peewee hockey tournament.
The Capitals, who were representing the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, lost 4-0 to Rivière-Sud Collège Française on Sunday. It was Summerside’s second loss in the two-game-elimination format after dropping its opener to the Zurich Lions from Switzerland 5-0 on Friday.
Despite the disappointment of the early exit, Summerside head coach Andrew Griffin praised his team’s play, and noted the players will be able to grow from this experience against bigger and faster teams.

The Caps’ game against Zurich was played at the Videotron Centre, which is an NHL-ready 18,000-seat arena that is currently home of the QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts.
“The team had an experience of a lifetime playing in front of a huge crowd,” said a Summerside team spokesman.
The Capitals, who also enjoyed team activities off the ice, are heading back to P.E.I. on Monday, and will resume play in the P.E.I. Peewee AAA Hockey League on Sunday, Feb. 24, with a game at Credit Union Place at 6:30 p.m. The Caps will also participate in the Ed McNeill Memorial tournament that begins in Slemon Park on Feb. 28.
Teams in the P.E.I. Peewee AAA Hockey League rotate representing the Islanders at this tournament.
