CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Soccer’s Amanda Stanyer and hockey’s Kameron Kielly are the UPEI Panther Subway female and male athletes of the week for Sept. 24-30.
Stanyer, a third-year science major from Port Coquitlam, B.C., went 1-0-1 with a shutout minding net as the women’s soccer team beat Moncton 4-1 then tied UNB 0-0.
Her coach Graeme McDonald didn’t miss Stanyer’s work on the pitch.
“Amanda had a solid performance against Moncton, including a terrific penalty save and important saves against UNB, keeping us in the game, McDonald said.
Kielly, a second-year business student from Charlottetown, score a goal in each of the Panther’s losses in men’s hockey last weekend as UPEI dropped a 5-3 loss to Moncton and a 4-3 decision to UNB. Forbes MacPherson, UPEI men’s head coach, was still upbeat about his sniper’s early season.
“Great to see Kam get off to a great start,” MacPherson said. “He’s an offensive catalyst for us.”
