CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Island’s top athletes, teams, coaches and administrators will be recognized next month in Charlottetown.

The finalists were recently released for Sport P.E.I.’s 46th annual awards show, which will take place Feb. 19 at Holland College’s Florence Simmons Performance Hall.

The finalist for the Cox and Palmer senior female athletes of the year are goalball’s Amy Burk, rugby’s Alysha Corrigan and wrestling’s Hannah Taylor. The Cox and Palmer senior male finalist are para biathlon and cross-country skiing’s Mark Arendz, rugby’s Kyle Baillie and curling’s Brett Gallant.

“Each year, we are amazed by the achievement of our Island athletes at a national and international level, and by the successes of our officials, coaches and volunteers in their respective sports,” said Sport P.E.I. president Ryan Innis. “Our province has a lot to be proud of.”

The Synergy Fitness & Nutrition intercollegiate male finalists are hockey’s Kameron Kielly, baseball’s Cole MacLaren and wrestling’s Ligrit Sadiku. The female finalists are squash’s Emma Jinks, track and field’s Bailey Smith and wrestling’s Hannah Taylor.

The DP Murphy Hotel junior female finalist are archery’s Kristen Arsenault, wrestling’s Vanessa Keefe and speed skating’s Jenna Larter. The male finalists are judo’s Mikey Perry plus teammates Jeremy McKenna and Jordan Spence of the Moncton Wildcats major junior hockey team.

Winners have already been determined in six categories.

Baseball’s Kevin McKenna earned the ADL administrator of the year while Rob McCormack will receive the P.E.I. Mutual Insurance coach of the year. Taekwondo’s Mandi Li won the P.E.I. Mutual Insurance official of the year while triathlon’s Nancy Ripley will take home the ADL masters athlete award.

The P.E.I. Wave under-16 team that won silver at the Canadian Ringette Championship in Summerside earned the CBC team of the year while the Canadian Ringette Championship is the SCORE! event of the year.

CBC Compass anchor Louise Martin will join longtime host JoAnne Holden to emcee the event.
