ALBERTON, P.E.I. — The P.E.I. under-13 curling championships wrapped up at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton recently.
This “open” event featured a format where there could be any combination of boys and/or girls on a team.
The 2019 winning teams were very similar to 2018 as the Brayden Snow foursome from the Silver Fox in Summerside went undefeated to win the A Division.
Snow was a member of last year’s winning team, and also skipped this year’s under-16 provincial championship rink.
The B champions were again the Ella Lenentine squad from the Cornwall Curling Club, and the Sydney Carver rink from Montague, with the same curlers on the team as last year, won the C title.
Impressive
The Snow rink was impressive in the round robin, winning both games by wide margins and earning a bye to the A final, where they again won by a wide margin over the Isaiah Dalton team from Charlottetown and Cornwall.
Third stone Anderson MacDougall, second stone Mallory Rochford and lead Makiya Noonan rounded out the Snow squad.
Lenentine won by a big margin over the James MacWilliams rink from O’Leary’s Maple Leaf Curling Club in the B final.
Other members of Team Lenentine are third stone Ashlyn Shaw, second stone Erika Pater and lead Veronica Pater.
Carver doubled the Mollie Shaw team from Charlottetown 6-3 to win the C title again.
Carver’s teammates are third stone Michaela MacLean, second stone Hannah Hogan and lead Brayden Jackson.
Awards
The sportsmanship award, as voted on by the players, was presented to Carver during the closing ceremonies.
The coaching award, as voted on by their coaching peers and the officials, was presented to Team Snow coach Andrew MacDougall.
