CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – William Sirman had a goal and two helpers to lead the Charlottetown Islanders to their third straight Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) win Friday at the Eastlink Centre.
Nikita Alexandrov scored twice, including the winner, while veterans Daniel Hardie, Keith Getson and Derek Gentile added singles in the 6-3 victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes.
Hardie had two assists while Lukas Cormier, Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Alexandrov, Alexander Dersch and Hunter Drew each had singles.
Jeremy Manseau, Jan Drozg and Mavric Bourque, who was selected third overall at this year’s QMJHL draft, scored for Shawinigan with assists to Gabriel Denis, Olivier Desroches, Manseau and Leon Denny.
Matthew Welsh made 19 saves in the victory. Lucas Fitzpatrick stopped 29 of 34 shots in 49:50. Antoine Coulombe made three saves on four shots in relief.
The game was scoreless after the first period while the Islanders took a 2-1 lead to the third.
Charlottetown was 1-for-5 on the power play while Shawinigan was 2-for-5.
The Islanders improved to 6-5-1-0 while the Cataractes are 3-8-0-0. Charlottetown host the Rimouski Oceanic (7-4-1-0-) Saturday at 7 p.m.
