NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — The Sydney Mitsubishi Rush had a win, a loss and a cancellation over the weekend during Nova Scotia Under-18 Hockey League action at the Pictou Wellness Centre.

On Saturday afternoon, the Sydney major midget squad dropped a 4-3 decision to the Halifax McDonalds after surrendering four unanswered goals in the last five minutes. The winning marker was scored by Jacob Newcombe and came with just 13 seconds left in regulation. Nick Mahar, Riley Seymour and Logan O’Neil scored for the Rush, while Lucas Fraser suffered the loss in nets.

On Saturday evening, Andrew Burke turned aside 24 shots to lead the Rush (4-6-0-0) to a 6-2 win over the South Shore Mustangs. Sydney launched a 40-shot attack which resulted in two-goal games by both Seymour and Reese Allen. Van Sawlor and Mahar had the other Rush goals.

The Rush’ Friday evening match against Cole Harbour Wolfpack will be rescheduled.

Meanwhile, the Cape Breton West Islanders won once and lost twice in their three weekend games in New Glasgow, including a 4-3 Friday afternoon loss to the Valley Wildcats. On Saturday morning, the Islanders (6-4-1-0) defeated Weeks Majors of Pictou 4-3 before losing an early evening tilt 3-2 to the Dartmouth Steel Subaru.
