X-Women announce commitment with Cape Breton connections

The St. Francis Xavier X-Women soccer team announced its first set of commitments for the 2020 soccer season, one of which has Cape Breton connections.

Defender Cassidy Byrne of Nanaimo District Secondary School on Vancouver Island will join the X-Women for the upcoming season. Byrne's parents are orginally from Glace Bay.

“Cassidy was one of the top defenders in the B.C. Soccer Premier League.” said X-Women head coach Graham Kennedy in a press release. “She can play at the U Sports level right away.”

Byrne played in the British Columbia Soccer Premier League with the Vancouver Island Wave under former Whitecaps women's head coach David Dew.

Byrne is currently plays in the Vancouver Island Soccer League premier women's division with Nanaimo United.

Keeper Jordyn Prat of Lord Beaverbrook High School in Calgary as well as forward Lauren Seamone of New Germany Rurual High School are also expected to join the Antigonish-based university soccer program next year.
