NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. — Woodmere Stealdeal etched his name in the Northside Downs record book on Saturday, becoming the fastest winning two-year-old in track history by virtue of his 1:56.2 in Atlantic Sire Stakes action.
Woodmere Stealdeal got away last in the five-horse field for driver Clare MacDonald as Dollars and Spence, driven by Redmond Doucet, led the field through torrid early fractions of 28.1, 57.4 and 1:26.1.
Dollars and Spence did battle with Mr. Rielly and Corey MacPherson up the backstretch and moved up to third. The pacers were three-wide heading into the stretch before Woodmere Stealdeal drove away to win by four lengths.
Woodmere Stealdeal is owned by Kevin Dorey and Robert Sumarah with Danny Romo as the trainer.
In the other colt division, Moneyorroses, who rallied from last at the top of the stretch, posted a win for driver Steven Shepherd in 1:58.2. The margin of victory was a length over pacesetter Rotten Ronnie and Redmond Doucet, while Jadensmagicsteel and Adam Merner finished in third place.
Moneyorroses is owned by Harold Shepherd and Robert Woodburn. It was the pacer’s first lifetime win in his third career start.
Gerard Kennedy led all drivers on the afternoon’s nine-race card, recording three wins, including victories with Elm Grove Ladyluck in 2:01.2, Sunny Beach 1:59.4, and Burn Em Up Burr in 2:00.
Runaway Mystery won the afternoon’s winners overall class in 1:59.1 for his sixth win in seven starts for Harold LeBlanc Jr. and Gussie Burns.
Other winners were Hotlikewasabi and Richie Baryluk in a maiden mark of 2:03.4, Imbadimnationwide for Bob McCormick in 2:02.2, Wildcat Jet for Mark Pezzarello in 1:59.2, Pictonian Fancypas for Gerry Snow in 2:00, and Q TS Charlie for Johnny Murphy in a new mark of 1:59.4.
Northside Downs will host the Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old pacing colts and two-and-three-year-old trotters on Saturday at 1 p.m. in North Sydney.
