The 17-year-old Elliott attended Ridley College, an Ontario prep school, last year. Newhook, who is also 17 and attended Tabor Academy, a Massachusetts prep school, in 2019-20, has already committed to attend and play for Boston College. Both played for Newfoundland and Labrador's female hockey entry at the most recent Canada Winter Games.

They’ll be aiming to so as Connors did two years ago, when she made the Canadian team that won a bronze medal at the U18 world championships in Russia.

Newhook is the second member of her family named to participate in a Hockey Canada summer program. Her older brother Alex, a Colorado Avalanche first-round draft pick and member of the Boston College Eagles, is part of the long list of players seeking berths on the next Canadian world junior team. This is the third consecutive year Connors has been named to the development team pool. The 19-year-old is coming off a sophomore season at Princeton that saw her named to Ivy League and ECAC all-star teams.
