SYDNEY — A Cape Breton hockey player has been recognized by the Elite Ice Hockey League for his performance during the 2019-20 season.

Joey Haddad of Sydney was recently named to the league’s first all-star team after receiving 8.56 per cent of fan nominations.

The 31-year-old forward appeared in 46 games with the Cardiff Devils last season, notching 29 goals and 57 points, along with 30 penalty minutes and a +11 rating.

Prior to taking his talents overseas, Haddad played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League between the P.E.I. Rocket and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

He later spent time between the American Hockey League and ECHL, before joining the Devils for the 2014-15 season. Since then, he’s won two championships with Cardiff, Wales.
