A Cape Breton Eagles player will represent the team in the Canadian Hockey League's premiere edition of the Memorial eCup presented by Kia.
Forward Jacob Santerre will represent the Sydney-based organization in a 64-team eSports tournament featuring all 60 CHL team across Canada and the United States.
The competition commences as a single-elimination tournament, with semi-final and final-round action before players go head-to-head in a best-of-three format. Tournament play begins Saturday with a 10-game set while the ultimate champion will be crowned Dec. 17.
The 18-year-old Santerre will face Luka Burzan of the Brandon Wheat Kings in the first game of the tournament. The game will be played at 6:05 p.m. Atlantic time on Saturday.
Meanwhile, former Cape Breton West Islander Jacob Stewart will represent the Moncton Wildcats in the tournament. He'll play Sportsnet's Sam Cosentino on Dec. 5 at 3:10 p.m. Atlantic time.
All Memorial eCup games will be streamed via Facebook Live and Twitch. Fans are also invited to follow along at chl.ca/MemorialeCup.
The winner of the Memorial eCup will have a $1,000 donation made in their name to a charity of choice.
