Three Cape Breton elite-level hockey teams will be in action this weekend to begin their exhibition schedule.

The Sydney Mitsubishi Rush and Cape Breton West Islanders will meet Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre and the two teams will also play Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre in Port Hood.

The newly named Cape Breton Lynx will also be in action in the Maritime Under-18 Major Female Hockey League when they host the Northern Subway Selects of Pictou County Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.

As of Thursday, the province eased restrictions involving participants in performing arts, sports and organized physical activity, as the number of COVID-19 cases in the province remain low.

The number of people participating in these activities without physical distancing will increase from 10 to 50 people, meaning the majority of sports can return to competition.
