ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — In an effort to keep students active while they are away from their regularly-scheduled extra-curricular and school activities, School Sports NL (SSNL) is spreading the word about its Active at Home initiative.

Last week, SSNL officially launched the program which promises a new physical activity 10 a.m. each weekday morning via the SSNL Participation Nation Facebook page.

Students and their families are encouraged to take a break from their new routine and spend some time working on their physical and mental health.

Week 1 delivered a simple four-corner exercise circuit, two Cosmic Yoga videos, a DANCEPL3Y routine, Throwback Thursday moment with TSN Body Breakers Hal Johnson and Joanne MacLeod, and a scavenger hunt to take kids through the weekend.

All activities, with the exception of the Throwback Thursday segment, are adapted from the Participation Nation core and specialized programs, and are designed to allow students of all ages and their families to get in on the action.

"The response so far has been fantastic! So many of our PN Facilitators have reached out to congratulate us on the initiative and have encouraged us to keep going,” said Courtney Russell, Participation Nation core program co-ordinator.

“We have had a number of our Member Schools sharing the content on their own FB pages and Twitter accounts to spread the word, so it’s been exciting to see the support.”

To further inspire and motivate students throughout the province, all participants are encouraged to share the initiative with their friends and families and to share photos and videos completing the daily challenge.
