SYDNEY, N.S. — Kody Quinn captured three feature races at Sydney Speedway on Sunday, a tune-up to the Thanksgiving Thunder weekend, scheduled for this month at the Sydney venue.

The Sydney native won both the twin features for the mini stock division while also capturing the first of two Colbourne Auto Group Legend features.

In his first race, Quinn took full control of the feature after his closest rival Josh Benac of Sydney blew a tire with five laps to go in the 30-lap contest, while running second.

Darrell Hulme of Sydney, who recently captured the Passione Flooring and Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour rookie of the year award, came second in the race while Brian Axworthy of Sydney Mines finished in third place.

In other action, Austin MacDonald of Pictou County had a good showing in his first trip to the Cape Breton Island oval, winning the second Colbourne Auto Group Legends event.

MacDonald pulled out in front with a couple of quick passes in the opening laps and later stretched his lead over Quinn in the second 25-lap affair. Quinn finished second while Devin Wadden of Hammonds Plains crossed the finish line in third place.

Dylan Dowe of Bedford captured a pair of wins in the Steve Lewis Auto Body Bandolero features topping spirited battles with Austin Tanner of Shubenacadie late in both of the 20-lap features.

The inaugural Thanksgiving Thunder weekend will take place Oct. 11-13.

The weekend will begin with an open practice for stock car competitors followed at 7 p.m. by a Bomber 50 and a demolition derby. Saturday and Sunday will see action in the Colbourne Auto Group Legends, Steve Lewis Auto Body Bandolero and the mini stock division.

The headline on Oct. 12 will be the street stock 100, while the late model sportsman class will be in the spotlight on Oct. 13 with a 100-lap feature.
