Antonio Kostakos from Halifax will be suiting up for the University of New Brunswick Reds men’s basketball team next season.
The 22-year-old veteran guard is a recent graduate from the sport and leisure management program at Holland College. He played three years for the Hurricanes and was part of two Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association championship teams and two Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association bronze medal-winning teams in 2017-2018. Before that, the 6’ Kostakos played at Citadel High School, where he won the city league title in 2014.
“Antonio is a proven commodity as an excellent knock-down shooter,” said Reds head coach Brent Baker in a news release. “Physically, he’s built for our league, which is important come playoff time. Bringing three years of experience from the college level will make him an integral part of our quest for an AUS title.”
At UNB, Kostakos will study business administration while setting his sights on an AUS title.
“The Reds play a style that compliments my game,” said Kostakos in the release. “They play a fast-paced game. Something that has always stood out to me about UNB is that the players always shoot the ball with confidence. Watching the Reds play, you can see that the coaching staff has complete confidence in their abilities. I’m really excited to attend UNB, and be a part of something special.”
