Francis scores shootout winner as Cape Breton Eagles beat Sea Dogs

SYDNEY, N.S. — Ryan Francis scored the shootout winner to lead the Cape Breton Eagles to a 3-2 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League preseason action at Centre 200 in Sydney on Friday.

Francis also scored in regulation time, tying the contest 2-2 with four seconds to play in the third period.

Rookie François-James Buteau also found the back of the net in regulation time for his first marker of the preseason for the Eagles (2-2-0-1).

Peter Reynolds and William Villeneuve netted goals for the Sea Dogs (2-2-0-1).

Cape Breton’s William Grimard made 31 saves. Saint John’s Noah Patenaude stopped 25 of 26 shots.

The Eagles and Sea Dogs will finish their two-game preseason series Saturday at 1 p.m. at Centre 200.
