SYDNEY, N.S. — A former Cape Breton Eagles bench boss has been hired by the Shawinigan Cataractes.
The Quebec-based Cataractes named Ron Choules as the team’s new head coach after Gordie Dwyer left the team to pursue professional coaching opportunities.
The 57-year-old served as the Eagles head coach for a season-and-a-half from 2011 to 2012. He was fired in December 2012 and replaced by Marc-Andre Dumont.
Prior to joining the Eagles, the former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick was the head coach of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for three-and-a-half seasons.
Following his time in Cape Breton, Choules went on to be an assistant coach with Concordia University, before returning to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach between the Cataractes and Gatineau Olympiques.
