Former Cape Breton Eagle captain Morgan Ellis reassigned to Latvia team

SYDNEY, N.S. — A former Cape Breton Eagle captain has been reassigned from the Kontinental Hockey League.

Defenceman Morgan Ellis was sent to HC Zemgale of the Latvian Hockey Higher League on Friday.

The Prince Edward Island native began the season with Dinamo Riga of the KHL. In 17 games, he posted a goal and four points along with a minus-12 rating.

The 28-year-old Ellis, who played three-and-a-half seasons with the Eagles, joined Dinamo after playing last season with HK Sochi of the KHL, posting a goal and 17 points.

Ellis was a fourth-round draft pick on the Montreal Canadiens at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He played three NHL games with the Canadiens.
