SYDNEY, N.S. — Eight hockey organizations from the Cape Breton Regional Municipality have come together to offer a new even split draw.

The Cape Breton County and Sydney minor hockey associations as well as the Cape Breton Blizzard, Cape Breton Jets, Cape Breton Lynx, Joneljim Cougars, Sydney Mitsubishi Rush and Kameron Junior Miners have partnered for the draw.

The partnership represents approximately 1,000 players who play in the municipality and the Eskasoni and Membertou First Nations.

“Local small businesses are a key supporter of minor hockey and they are facing a difficult year because of COVID-19,” said David Jamael, president of the Sydney Minor Hockey Association.

“When the shutdown happened, we started to talk about the tough time many sponsors are facing. We felt that we could better contribute and relieve the burden by joining together for an even split to raise money for the kids.”

The three minor hockey associations — Cape Breton Blizzard, Cape Breton County and Sydney — players will receive 25 cents for tickets sold and the association will receive 25 cents for overhead fees and costs. The five major team players will get 40 cents, while 10 cents will be set aside for overhead fees and costs.

All players within the associations will sell the same even split tickets. Tickets are available from hockey players in those associations and can be found at store counters around the region in the coming weeks.
