SYDNEY, N.S. — Local residents itching for physical activity can now work out with some of Cape Breton University's top student-athletes.

The Capers at Home program is a new online partnership between CBU and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s recreation department and its Active for Life program. The initiative features a video series, available on YouTube, of CBU varsity athletes and special guests who will deliver activities, challenges and games as part of an effort to encourage people of all ages to stay home and stay active.

Deano Morley, head coach of the Capers men’s soccer team, said the new program aims to get people moving while they are at home abiding by public health regulations.

“We have some of the top athletes in the country and they are going to help you be active at home — our whole goal is to be as active as possible,” said Morley.

“We know that physical health and mental health are closely connected — physical literacy is just as important as academic literacy, development and sport and can unite people in ways little else can.”

The athletes and other presenters will offer ways to stay active, help with skills development and present fun and healthy physical challenges.

The online program can be accessed anytime by visiting the Capers in the Community page on YouTube. Four videos, including an introductory piece with Morley, have already been uploaded.
