Cape Breton Eagles reassign six players on Friday

SYDNEY, N.S. — The Cape Breton Eagles released six players from its training camp on Friday.

Forwards Alex Cormier, Adam Bowness and Marc Richard, along with defencemen Matthew Lint and Matthew Power, and goaltender Kenzie MacPhail were reassigned.

Cormier, 17, appeared in 35 games with the Moncton Flyers of the New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League, posting 12 goals and 26 points. He’s been reassigned to Grand Falls (MHL). He was a 10th-round pick of the Eagles in 2019.

Bowness, 18, played in 49 games for the Campbellton Tigers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL), notching four goals and 12 points. He was a sixth-round pick of Drummondville in 2018 and traded to Cape Breton last year. He’s be reassigned to Campbellton.

Richard, 17, suited up for the Summerside Western Capitals (MHL) last season, recording 12 goals and 30 points in 52 games. He was an 11th-round pick by the Eagles in 2018. He’s been reassigned to Summerside.

Lint, 18, began the 2019-20 season with the Eagles, appearing in 17 games with the team, recording one goal. He was later sent to the Moncton Flyers, where he had four goals and 11 points in 16 games. He was a free agent invite by Cape Breton in 2019. He’s been reassigned to Miramichi (MHL).

Power, 18, appeared in 34 games with the Cole Harbour Wolfpack of the Nova Scotia Eastlink Major Midget Hockey League (NSMMHL), recording eight goals and 36 points. Power, who has connections to Sydney, was a 10th-round pick by Cape Breton in 2018. He’s been reassigned to Valley (MHL).

MacPhail, 17, played 22 games for the Cape Breton West Islanders of the NSMMHL, posting a 9-12-0-0 record, along with a 4.47 goals-against-average and a .874 save percentage. He was picked by the Eagles in the sixth-round in 2019. He’s been reassigned to Miramichi (MHL).

Meanwhile, on the Thursday, the Eagles reassigned defenceman Jacob Christie to the Truro Bearcats (MHL) following an injury in camp.

In total, 29 players remain on the Eagles training camp roster. Physically, 27 players are currently in Sydney, not including import players Ivan Ivan and Mikhail Nizovkin who will join the team at a later date.
