The University of New Brunswick Reds have recruited 6-foot-4, left-side hitter Adam James of Conception Bay South to their roster for the 2021-22 Atlantic University Sport men’s volleyball season.

“Adam is the top prospect coming out of Newfoundland and Labrador this season,” Reds head coach Dan McMorran said in a new release. “He’s been a large factor in his teams’ successes over the past couple of years, at both the high school and club levels.”

Janes is completing Grade 12 at Mount Pearl’s O’Donel high and is a member of the Python Volleyball Club in Mount Pearl.

He was part of the Python’s team that won both the under-17 and U18 provincial championships in 2020. He also played a key role on the Pythons’ U17 provincial championship team in 2019, earning tournament MVP honours, and was a member of the club’s U15 side that captured a silver medal at the 2019 Volleyball Canada national championship.

A member of Team Newfoundland and Labrador’s U15 and U17 squads, James helped the U17s win gold at the 2019 Atlantic Championships.

James was an all-star at the 2020 U17 and U18 provincial championships, the 2019 MVP of the Avalon Senior A Men’s Volleyball League, and was recently selected to participate in Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association’s high performance skills training.

“With his size, athleticism, and work ethic, I believe he has the potential to be a top outside hitter in U SPORTS,” said McMorran. “We’re looking forward to working with a student-athlete of Adam’s calibre.”
