Markham Waxers forward Tate Collins celebrates after putting the puck past Kensington Wild netminder George Gallant as the Telus Cup national under-18 hockey championship got underway Monday at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre. Looking on are Waxers forward Matthew Johnson and Wild defencemen Eddy Doyle (4) and Jacob Denomme (3).  The Ontario-based Waxers edged the Wild of Prince Edward Island’s Wild by a score of 7-6 to start the seven-day tournament, which features the top teams from across the country. In other action Monday, the host Sydney Mitsubishi Rush took on the Calgary Buffaloes of Alberta, while the Brandon Wheat Kings of Manitoba faced the Magog Cantonniers of Quebec. The semifinal games are scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The bronze-medal and championship games will be played Sunday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
