KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — Three players recorded four points, and the Western Red Wings used a potent offence to post a convincing 8-1 win over the Kensington Vipers on Friday night.
The Red Wings scored eight unanswered goals, including five in the first 10:43 of the second period, in the Island Junior Hockey League game at Credit Union Centre in Kensington.
Chandler Wood and Isaac Callaghan each had two goals and two assists, while Chase Gaudette contributed one goal and three helpers.
Connor Morrissey (1-1), Bradley Campbell and Alex Morrissey rounded out the scoring for Western, which improved its league-leading record to 11-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). Isaac Knox (3), Chandler DesRoches (3), Silas Handrahan and Ethan Beaulieu contributed helpers.
Ryan Richards, assisted by Dixon MacLeod and Tayler Read, staked the Vipers to a 1-0 first-period lead.
The Red Wings tied the game with 14 seconds remaining in the opening frame and took a 7-1 cushion into the second intermission.
Stephan Giansante made 35 saves for the Red Wings. Jonah Arbing (21/26) and Ben Parent (19/22) split the goaltending duties for Kensington (8-5-0).
League resumes on Sunday as the Red Wings host the Eastern Maniacs (0-13-0) at the Evangeline Recreation Centre at 7 p.m.
