CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - It’s official.
The teams are set for the men’s and women’s curling event at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta., after the trials concluded Sunday in Cornwall.
On the women’s side, Team Ferguson from the Cornwall Curling Club won the right to represent P.E.I. with a 5-3 win over the Sydney Howatt rink also from Cornwall.
Ferguson won the best-of-five series 3-2 in the close deciding game thanks to a last rock advantage in the final end and a deuce in the sixth.
The Lauren Ferguson-skipped foursome also includes third Katie Shaw, second Alexis Burris and lead Lexie Murray. Coach is David Murphy
Ferguson blanked the opening end. The teams trading single points in the other ends.
For the men, it’s Team Schut from Cornwall, which scored three in an extra end to beat the Chase MacMillan foursome from Charlottetown 8-5 to win the best-of-five series 3-1.
The Mitchell Schut-skipped group also counts third Nick Johnston, second Liam Kelly and lead Colin MacKenzie on the roster. Coaching the rink is Lori Robinson.
The Games run Feb. 15-March 3. The curling competition gos Feb. 25-March 2.
