SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Dangle Ona Dime will look to extend his exceptional season, in which he has only missed the board twice, in tonight’s top class at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The special Wednesday evening card comes after the Prince County oval took a two-week hiatus during Old Home Week racing at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Tonight’s card begins at 6:30 p.m. with the top class lining up in Race 12.
Race secretary Gerard Smith has placed Dangle Ona Dime as the morning-line favourite from Post 5 in the $2,600 top class with driver Ken Murphy filling in on the race bike for trainer Duane MacEachern and owner Darla MacEachern of Summerside. The four-year-old son of Pang Shui equalled his lifetime best in his latest start winning in 1:55.4 over Charlottetown with Corey MacPherson at the lines that day.
Catch Twenty Two ships in from Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia and draws Post 2 for trainer-driver Darren Crowe sporting a not-worse-than-third record since the end of June. Rookie driver Kyle Mason has amassed a .351 driving average in his inaugural season and will again drive Ultimatelyhandsome from Post 3.
The field also includes Mando Fun (Dale Spence), Coasttocoastshark (Devon Wallace), Pictonian Storm (John Davidson), Nogreatmischief (Walter Cheverie) and Phil Dorleans (Jason Hughes).
Face The Challenge makes his Prince County debut in Race 4 in a maiden event for a $1,600 purse. Norris Rogers will drive the Ed Harvey-owned-and-trained pacer, who made his Island debut during Old Home Week with a third-place finish.
The three-year-old son of Sportswriter has yet to win a race but paced in 1:53 and change as a two-year-old in an Ontario Sires Stakes gold division at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The winner of $15,627 lifetime has drawn Post 4 after most recently racing at Rideau Carleton Raceway outside Ottawa before making the trek east.
