FREDERICTON – Eight of P.E.I.’s top junior tennis players are in Fredericton, N.B., this week to compete in the Atlantic outdoor junior tennis championships that continue until Sunday.

The Island contingent will compete with over 70 players from across the Atlantic provinces to earn spots at the national championships in Ontario and Quebec next month.
“The Atlantic championships are always an exciting event since it’s here where players qualify for the national tournaments,” said Tennis P.E.I. executive director Don Cameron.
Cameron points to Kensington’s Rachel Phalen, who enters the tournament as the top seed in both girls’ under-14 and under-16 competitions, as a player to watch.
Meanwhile, Cameron notes P.E.I.’s youngest competitors, Sebastien Nguyen and Elijah Opps, could surprise people in the under-10 competition.
