P.E.I.’s two representatives at the 2019 New Holland Canadian junior curling championships headed into the final day of round-robin play on winning notes.

The Lauren Ferguson rink from the Cornwall Curling Club scored five in the sixth end en route to an 11-5 decision over the Northwest Territories on Monday night. Also in the same draw, Tyler Smith’s squad from the Charlottetown Curling Complex counted two four-enders in a 13-4 win over the Northwest Territories.

Smith, third stone Ryan Abraham, second stone Alex MacFadyen and lead Ryan Lowery took a 2-3 record into Tuesday night final round-robin game against New Brunswick.

Ferguson, third stone Katie Shaw, second stone Alexis Burris and lead Lexie Murray sat at 1-4 heading into their round-robin finale against Manitoba on Tuesday morning.

P.E.I. didn’t fare well against Manitoba, however. They surrendered four in the first end, en route to a 9-3 defeat to fall to 1-5. P.E.I. scored singles in the second, fifth and seventh ends. The teams shook hands following the eighth end.

The top four teams from each seven-team pool advance to the championship round while the remaining teams will compete in a seeding pool.

The national under-21 championships will conclude on Sunday.
