Panthers stretch win streak to three in AUS women's hockey

SACKVILLE, N.B. – Captain Emma Weatherbie and veteran Rachel Colle each had two assists to help lead the UPEI Panthers to their third straight victory in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey action.

Faith Steeves, Kelly Clements, Tyler Way, Samantha Mintz and Jolena Gillard on the power play scored in the 5-2 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties in Sackville, N.B. Maria Clinton, Nikki Gallant and Shelby Foran each had an assist.

Heather Richards on the power play and Mermaid’s Maddy Koughan gave the host Mounties a 2-1 lead with 1:55 left in the first period, but Clements scored with 28 seconds remaining to send the game to the intermission tied 2-2.

The Panthers scored three goals in five minutes midway through the second period.

Camille Scherger stopped 20 shots for the win while Kaitlin Mowbray allowed five goals on 29 shots in two periods of play. Bianca Zack stopped all seven shots she faced in relief.

UPEI was 1-for-2 on the power play and Mount Allison was 1-for-5.

The Panthers improved to 3-1-0 while the Mounties are 1-2-0. UPEI hosts Saint Mary’s Saturday, Oct. 27.
