CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Jenna Mae Ellsworth had 16 points, five rebounds and two assists to lead the UPEI Panthers to a 65-57 victory over the Saint Mary’s Huskies Friday in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball action.
Carolina Del Santo had 13 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks for the hometown Panthers while Reese Baxendale had eight points, six assists and five rebounds, Karla Yepez had nine points and Jane McLaughlin had seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Arianna Macias had 16 points to pace the Huskies while Josie Gascoigne had 12 and Kendra MacKinnon chipped in 10 points in 12 minutes off the bench.
The Huskies led 17-15 after the first quarter but trailed 27-26 at the half before taking a 44-43 lead to the fourth. The Panthers had their best shooting quarter (45 per cent on 9-for-20) of the night in the final 10 minutes.
UPEI improved to 4-1 while Saint Mary’s is 0-5. The teams play Saturday at 6 p.m.
