VIDEO: Peter Gordon has jersey retired by UPEI Panthers

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The most decorated member of the UPEI Panthers men's basketball team had his number retired Saturday night.

Peter Gordon's No. 34 joined Andy Packard's No. 42 in the gym before the Panthers game with the McMaster Marauders as part of the Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament.

Gordon starred for the Panthers from 1986-1991. He earned all-conference and the AUAA rookie-of-the-year honours in his first season. He was a four-time AUAA first team all-star, a three-time all-Canadian and a three-time UPEI male athlete of the year.

During his five seasons, he scored 1,639 points in league play – an average of 19.8 points per game to go with 6.1 rebounds. He was inducted into the UPEI Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

Gordon is now a teach in Whitby, Ont., and coaches at nearby Durham College.
