SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — It was a rough start to the 2019 Atlantic University Sport soccer season for the UPEI Panthers over the weekend.

Both UPEI teams failed to score a goal in road losses against St. Francis Xavier on Friday and Cape Breton on Sunday. The women lost 2-0 against St. Francis Xavier and 4-0 to Cape Breton. The men also fell 2-0 to St. Francis Xavier and 1-0 to Cape Breton.

Women
Mercy Myles and an own goal accounted for St. Francis Xavier’s scoring against the Panthers. Both goals came in the second half.
Christina Gentile earned the shutout.
Ciera Disipio, Amelia Carlini, MacKenna King and Alliyah Rowe scored for Cape Breton. Haley Kardas recorded the shutout.
Cape Breton led 1-0 at halftime.
UPEI (0-2-0) hosts Acadia (1-1-0) on Friday at 5 p.m.

Men
Second-half goals by Dan Hayfield and Blake Fenton proved to be the difference for the X-Men against UPEI.
Seamus MacDonald picked up the shutout.
Cory Bent’s goal in the second half proved to be the difference for Cape Breton. Ben Jackson had a perfect game in goal.
The Panthers (0-2-0) entertain the Acadia Axemen (1-0-0) on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
