SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Tobins Rebel teamed up with trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau to dispose of his maiden status in his debut in Atlantic Sires Stakes action Thursday at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

Barrieau and Tobins Rebel took control of the race past the quarter and led the rest of the way in his $9,080 Atlantic Sires Stakes A division for two-year-old pacing colts, stopping the clock in 1:59.2. Now undefeated in this young point his career, the son of Camystic kicked home in 28.3 for owner Daniel Ross of Belfast. Red Dirt Fulofhart was victorious in the second division with a 2:02.3 time with David Dowling commanding the reins for trainer and co-owner Lenny Myers of Stratford and co-owner Jack Quinn of Charlottetown. Mall Cop (Kenny Arsenault) secured the deuce with Krispy Krunch (Mike McGuigan) third.

The final $9,080 A division was won by Woodmere Rollhario with front-end tactics while unleashing a final half in 58.1 to win the class in 2:02.1 for driver Marc Campbell, trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. Woodmere Rollnpop (Clare MacDonald) was half-a-length back in second and JJ Austin (Barrieau) completed the triactor ticket.

Driver Adam Merner and trainer Melissa Rennie dominated the Atlantic Sires Stakes B division racing for the rookie colts, winning both divisions. The Charlottetown duo sent Windemere Ryan post-ward in the first $2,500 class and won in 2:02.2, then Mr Kelly captured the second split with a 2:02.4 score.

Sailor Blue hit the wire first in the Race 4 trot in memory of Boyd Leslie with a 2:01 mile. Cindy MacDonald co-owns and trains the four-year-old daughter of Armbro Barrister with Yossi Martonovich of Montague, and Tanya and Tessa MacKinnon of Souris.

The Race 7 Gentleman Jim’s Restaurant Pace in memory of Cam Cameron saw Elektra Express prevail in line to Jason Hughes in 2:00.2 for co-owner and conditioner Jennifer Doyle and co-owner Danny Birt of Vernon Bridge.
