ELMSDALE, P.E.I. – The Island Storm got up early and kept scoring Friday in defeating Pure Passion Sport 142-114 in pre-season basketball action Friday at Westisle Composite High School.

The Storm held 40-20, 71-44 and 109-78 quarter advantages.

Sampson Carter had 24 points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals to pace a balanced Storm attack. Alex Campbell had 22 points and nine points while Robbie Robinson had 18 points. Jarrell Tate scored 20 points off the bench and Kyle Arsenault chipped in 18 while going 3-for-7 from downtown. Tyler Scott had 11 points, nine rebound and five dimes off the bench.

Haslin Dixon had a game-high 25 points off the bench for the New Jersey-based Pure Passion Sport, which shot 37 per cent from the field. The Storm hit 37 per cent of its treys with two each from Robinson, Carter and Russell Byrd.

The teams play again Saturday at Kensington Intermediate-Senior High at 7 p.m. Admission fees for the Kensington game are $10 for adults, $5 for all students and pre-school-aged children are free.

The Storm begins the National Basketball League of Canada regular season on Friday, Nov. 16, by hosting the Cape Breton Highlanders at 7 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre.
