CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Six players scored 13 or more points Sunday as the Island Storm won its second straight game.
Sampson Carter had a team-high 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Storm to a 118-100 victory. Russell Byrd had 18 points while Tyler Scott and Dominic Shuler each contributed 15. Kareem Canty scored 14 to go with seven assists and five boards. Guillaume Boucard added 13 points and six dimes.
Former Storm guard Terry Thomas had 23 points and eight rebounds to pace the Hurricanes attack while Joel Kindred chipped in 21 points and Jordan Washington 17.
The Storm snapped a 10-game losing streak Friday by beating the Moncton Magic.
"It’s just great for us, great for the franchise and it’s, especially, great for the players,” head coach Tim Kendrick said. “I don't think people realize just how hard something like that is on the players.”
He said during the time the players stayed together and worked through the losses.
“In this league, if you can get 12 guys buying in and playing hard all the time, you have a chance to be successful," he said.
The Storm started early, building a 35-21 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, holding a 62-45 and 90-72 advantages at the half and after three quarters, respectively.
"Our first group has really started games off well for us and sets a good tone,” Kendrick said. “Then the young guns come in and they just wreak havoc.”
The Storm improved to 4-11 and leapfrogged the Saint John Riptide (4-12) to get out of the league basement. The Hurricanes fall to 9-10.
