Storm downs Express as Island squad continues playoff chase

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Alex Campbell had a game-high 30 points to pace the Island Storm to a 137-118 victory over the Windsor Express Sunday in National Basketball League of Canada play at the Eastlink Centre.

Robbie Robinson chipped in 23 points off the bench while Malik Story had 18 points. Jonathan Loyd had 14 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and two steals while Terrell Carter II had 13 points and 11 rebounds as all five starters scored double-digits.

Juan Pattillo had 26 points to lead the Express while Chris Jones chipped in 22.

The Express’ largest lead was by one point midway through the first quarter but the Storm was in control for most of the game. The home side held 35-28, 60-53 and 98-87 quarter leads to improve to 10-23 while the Express dropped to 17-17.

The Storm was unable to gain any ground on the Saint John Riptide in the fight for the final playoff berth as the Riptide defeated the St. John’s Edge 96-89.

The Storm was wearing special purple jerseys that were auctioning off with all the funds going to the Canadian Cancer Society P.E.I. The Storm travels to Halifax Monday to play the Hurricanes at 7 p.m.
