States, Colley take Hurricanes weekly honours

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Brittany States and Jace Colley are the Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the week.

States, a second-year middle for the ‘Canes women’s volleyball team, led Holland College to sweeping weekend games with the University of King’s College Blue Devils. On Saturday she had 13 kills, seven digs and a block in a straight sets win. She added 13 more kills on Sunday along with six digs and two service aces in a four-set win.

States is fourth in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) in kills per set at 2.6 and third in total kills at 161. The Bathurst, N.B., native, is studying in the sport and leisure management program.

Colley, a first-year forward for the Hurricanes men’s basketball team, had 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and a block in Saturday’s 118-85 win over the Crandall Chargers.

Colley sits in fourth in the ACAA in field-goal percentage at 58 per cent and he is averaging a block per game, second in the conference. The East Preston, N.S., native, is studying business administration.
