P.E.I.’s Tyler Smith rink fell to 1-3 (won-lost) at the 2019 New Holland Canadian junior curling championships in Prince Albert, Sask.
Nova Scotia outscored the Smith team from the Charlottetown Curling Complex 9-7 in Monday’s early draw. It was the third straight loss for Team Smith, which outlasted Quebec 9-7 in its opener on Saturday. Smith, who is scheduled to play the Northwest Territories in Monday’s late draw, lost twice on Sunday to Northern Ontario 7-6 and Manitoba 7-3.
Smith, third stone Ryan Abraham, second stone Alex MacFadyen and lead Ryan Lowery will close out the round robin against New Brunswick in Tuesday’s late draw.
Alex Gallant of Summerside is playing the lead position for New Brunswick’s Jack Smeltzer rink, which takes a 2-1 record into Monday night’s draw.
Women
In women’s play at the national under-21 championship, P.E.I.’s Lauren Ferguson rink from the Cornwall Curling Club entering Monday night’s draw against the Northwest Territories at 0-4. It is the only game of the day for Ferguson, third stone Katie Shaw, second stone Alexis Burris and lead Lexie Murray.
Sunday, Ferguson lost 5-3 to Quebec and 7-3 to Saskatchewan after dropping 9-5 and 9-4 decisions to New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador on Saturday.
Ferguson’s final round-robin game is against Manitoba on Tuesday morning.
