CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown’s John MacDonald is excited to take part in the upcoming International Powerlifting Federation’s World Classic and Equipped Bench Press Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
He is a member of Team Canada, a contingent of close to 30 lifters. This year’s championships have a record number of lifters, with 1,088 entrants from around the world vying for medals.
MacDonald, who has previous experience in the bench press championships in 2010, said that while he has not attended this event in recent years, he “couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go to Japan.”
The event begins Saturday and concludes on Saturday, May 25, with MacDonald lifting in the open 93-kilogram class category, in the equipped division.
