P.E.I. girls earn bronze at under-13, under-14 championships in Charlottetown

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Alice Dorsey scored the only goal of the game and Andrea Desbarats recorded the shutout Sunday morning as P.E.I. defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 1-0 at the Atlantic All-Star under-14 girls’ soccer championship.

The game was scoreless at the half with Dorsey giving the home side the lead in the 44th minute at UPEI.

In the gold-medal game, Nova Scotia edged New Brunswick 2-1. Reegan Wagg and Elliott Chambers scored in the win while Mia DesRoches countered for New Brunswick.

Nova Scotia went 3-0-0 to sit atop the standings after the round robin. They were followed by New Brunswick (2-1-0), P.E.I. (1-2-0) and Newfoundland and Labrador (0-3-0).

Under-13

Sarah Lewis scored the lone goal of the bronze-medal game and MacKensie Ramsay had the clean sheet as P.E.I. shut out New Brunswick 1-0.

In the gold-medal contest, Lily Walsh scored the gold medal-winning goal as Nova Scotia defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 1-0. Danica Scully and Kaitlyn Langille shared the clean sheet.

Nova Scotia finished first in the round robin with a 2-0-1 record. Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick tied for second with 1-1-1 records, but Newfoundland and Labrador finished ahead of New Brunswick on goal differential. P.E.I. went 0-2-1.
