ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – The St. John’s Edge shot better than the Island Storm Friday in a 112-104 win in front of 3,216 fans at Mile One Centre in St. John’s, N.L.
The Edge had the edge from the field (42.6 per cent to 41.4), three-point land (24.4-18.8 per cent) and the free-throw line (75-64 per cent) during the Storm’s first trip to St. John’s in National Basketball League of Canada action. The Storm left Charlottetown early Friday morning, drove to Halifax and flew to St. John’s to play that night. The teams play again Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Atlantic.
Maurice Jones Sr. had 23 points and 10 assists to pace the Edge while Desmond Lee scored 17 and Carl English 15. Former NBA forward Glen (Big Baby) Davis had four points and a rebound in three minutes off the bench in his first game since joining the Edge earlier this week.

Obinna Oleka chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench in the win.
Russell Byrd and Sampson Carter led the Storm with 26 and 25 points, respectively. Forward Tirrell Baines started and had 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal in 24 minutes while Alex Campbell chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Tyree White had 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block off the bench. Sampson led the team with eight rebounds.
The Edge held quarter leads of 23-17, 54-45 and 86-76. The Storm led only once while the Edge led by as many as 15 in the third quarter.
The Edge improved to 3-5 while the Storm is 2-3.
