Hurricanes take on Mystics in final regular season hoops matchups

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Holland College Hurricanes finish up their regular seasons on the road Saturday when the squads face the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in Halifax, N.S.

Start times for the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) contests are 2 p.m. for the women, 4 p.m. for the men.

The men’s ‘Canes lead the ACAA at 20-0 and own the top seed heading into the conference championships March 1-3 at Crandall University. The Mystics sit at 14-5.

Should the Hurricanes win it would be the second time in team history it’s posted an unbeaten regular season. Holland College went 18-0 in 2014-15.

The Hurricanes lead the season series 2-0 versus the Mystics after 112-89 and 98-67 wins.

Hurricanes forward Roosevelt Whyley lead ACAA in field goal percentage (69.6), Agak Lual tops the blocks per game list at 2.1, and Jorden Holness paces the circuit in steals per game (3.7) and assists per game (5.5).

The women’s Hurricanes (7-13) play for pride against the first place Mystics (19-0) after being eliminated from the post season. MSVU downed the ‘Canes in both meetings this season.

Stratford’s Lexi MacInnis is third in the ACAA in points per game with 14.2, while Kassandra Little also of Stratford is second in rebounds per game (7.4). Rookie Ashley Plaggenhoef (Stratford) is fifth in field goal percentage (45.2) and three-point percentage (36.6).
