Women’s basketball player Ashley Plaggenhoef and men’s football player Denzel Gendron-Muscadin have been named the Holland Hurricanes athletes of the week for the week ending Oct. 7.
Plaggenhoef, a first-year guard for the Hurricanes, demonstrated improvement and growth over the weekend in pre-season games against top RSEQ competition in Montreal.
In three games, Plaggenhoef averaged six points, five rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes of play per game versus top teams from the region, including a high-ranked roster from the Montmorency College. She was also receptive to coaching and supported her teammates during the road trip.
The Stratford native is studying in the sport and leisure management program.
The women’s basketball ‘Canes begin their regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement at 4 p.m. versus the STU Tommies.
Gendron-Muscadin, a defensive back for the Hurricanes, picked up an interception in the ‘Canes loss to the Dalhousie Tigers on Sunday by a score of 23-12. He was also named the special teams player of the week for the football Hurricanes.
The Montreal, Que., native is studying in the sport and leisure management program.
The football Hurricanes are 2-2 on the season and in a tie for second place with the University of New Brunswick. The two teams will square off in an important regular season matchup this Saturday in Fredericton at 1 p.m.
