CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — UPEI Panthers centre Carolina Del Santo has repeated as the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) defensive player of the year.

It was announced as part of the conference’s award winners ahead of the playoff that start Friday in Halifax. Cape Breton Capers forward Hannah Brown was named the MVP while Acadia’s Jayda Veinot was named rookie of the year and Capers Fabian McKenzie is the coach of the year.

Del Santo, a six-foot-one centre from Barcelona, Spain, led the nation in blocks with 48 and led the conference in rebounds, averaging 13.3 per game. The third-year Panther’s 265 total rebounds set a new AUS single season record, breaking her previous mark of 250 from 2017-18.

Del Santo was named to the conference’s first all-star team with Brown, Acadia’s Haley McDonald, Memorial’s Sydney Stewart and the Capers Monique Calliste. Panthers guard Jenna Mae Ellsworth of Charlottetown made the second team.

Forward Jamesley Jerome made the Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball all-rookie team.

The six-foot-seven Montreal native averaged 11.3 points and 6.7 rebounds.

He was joined by Memorial’s Emanuel Ring, St. FX’s Atik Gilao and Cape Breton’s Eugene Kanku and Ibrahim Gosselin-Diawara. Saint Mary’s guard Kemar Alleyne was named the MVP.
