CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Charlottetown native Josh Bourque will wear the maroon and black this season for the Holland College Hurricanes men’s basketball team.

The captain of the Charlottetown Rural Raiders also represented Prince Edward Island at the Canada Games last summer in Winnipeg.

“I chose to enroll at Holland College because it has a great reputation,” he said. “I am fortunate to have such a great school so close to my home.”

The six-foot-four forward excels with his shooting ability and rebounding while also maintaining his composure during tense situations in games.

“We’re happy to be adding Josh to our program,” said head coach Josh Whitty. “He’s a fine young man and has lots of upside. He’s a strong shooter and has good length for his position. We’re certain he’ll make a solid addition to our roster over the next couple of seasons.”

Bourque is entering his first year in the business administration program and looks forward to the challenge of balancing his academic and athletic responsibilities.

“I look forward to bringing my enthusiasm to the team while improving on the court and learning in the classroom. I’m very excited to play at the collegiate level in my hometown and look forward to competing with the best teams in the country,” he said. “I’ll do anything I can to help our team win.”

The Hurricanes have won the last six Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) titles while also taking home bronze medals at the last three national championships. They open up their regular season on Oct. 27 when they host the St. Thomas Tommies.
