STANHOPE, P.E.I. — Brian Affleck of Antigonish won his fourth Tim Hortons Stanhope Open golf tournament in six years last weekend.
Affleck, who shot rounds of 68 and 70 in the 36-hole event, overcame a one-shot deficit from first-round leader Neal Ryan of Halifax. Ryan finished in a tie for second with Trevor Giggey of Fox Meadow. Both players shot a 4-under 140.
On the amateur side, Jason Campbell of Mill River held off a hard-charging Tim Yorke of Andersons Creek. Campbell carded rounds of 68 and 72 while Yorke shot a 68 on Sunday to go with an opening 76 from Saturday.
Fiona Thompson of Countryview had scores of 78 and 81 to best Stanhope’s Chrissy MacLauchlan (84-79) by four shots.
The senior men’s title went to Jeff Cooke (74-78-152), who held off Tony Perry of Mill River and Terry Hashimoto of Belvedere. Perry and Hashimoto each had 153 totals.
Overall, there were 146 players in the event, which included 27 professionals from around Atlantic Canada.
