On a snowy, very Canadian-like February morning, a national championship fast pitch tournament to be played this summer in the capital region received a nice little boost.
At a news conference at the West Carleton Sports Club on Tuesday, it was announced that the 2020 U23 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship has added a title sponsor in Alterna Savings and Credit Union Limited.
The six-day tournament (July 28-Aug. 2) will be held in Carp and is expected to attract 12,000 players and fans as well as provide an estimated $1.5 million to the local economy.
“Many of the players are former Canada Games and Junior Men’s National Team athletes as well as some current members of the Men’s National Team Athlete Pool,” said tournament committee chair Shawn Williams. “The partnership with Alterna Savings will allow us to bring a first class-championship tournament and thousands of fans to the Ottawa area for this prestigious event.”
